Harmful impacts, little action: pesticides in cocoa production in West Africa
Highly hazardous pesticides are increasingly being used on cocoa farms in West Africa. Many of them are banned in the European Union because of their harmful effects on human health and the environment. Despite their dangers to cocoa farmers, children, their communities and the environment, their use has not been a main topic of discussion in the sector so far.

This webinar, jointly hosted by INKOTA and VOICE, will highlight the following issues:
• causes of increasing pesticide use in cocoa production in West Africa
• effects on farmers, child laborers, communities and the environment
• weak regulatory frameworks in both producing and consuming countries
• lack of data and transparency of pesticide use in company value chains
• alternatives to synthetic pesticide in cocoa production

Brief inputs will be given by experts from across the globe, followed by a Q&A and panel discussion on solutions and ways forward.
